Cox & Palmer Remembers The Honourable Edward Roberts, CM, ONL, OC, KC
It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of The Honourable Edward Roberts, CM, ONL, OC, QC. Edward was a dear friend, brilliant colleague, and dedicated public servant who made a remarkable impact on the legal and political landscapes of Newfoundland and Labrador. Edward passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022.
Edward’s professional and political achievements are highly regarded and well documented as a significant part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s history. They are also a significant part of Cox & Palmer’s history.
Edward established one of Cox & Palmer’s predecessor firms, Halley, Roberts, Barry. During that time, he expressed a vision of building a firm that could serve its clients’ interests throughout Atlantic Canada. Many years and many mergers later, Cox & Palmer became a reality. While Edward was a public servant at the time, he was the impetus of this reality and returned to the firm years later to serve as Counsel.
Edward was an exceptional lawyer, a loyal public servant, and a dedicated community leader. In addition to his many professional and political titles, Edward was also a mentor, historian, and author who was known for his sharp wit and vast knowledge.
Edward leaves behind an unmatched legacy. His more than 50 years of service to the province have made him a pillar in the legal and public communities across the region.
We are privileged to have known him and are honoured to call him one of our own.
