Cox & Palmer Creative Writing Award Presented at 2013 SPARKS Literary Festival
The recipient of the Cox & Palmer SPARKS Creative Writing Award was announced yesterday at the 4th annual SPARKS Literary Festival held at Memorial University in St. John’s. Dana Evely, a student of Memorial University and an award winning poet, was presented a $2,500 cheque for her outstanding achievement the field of creative writing.
The Cox & Palmer SPARKS Creative Writing Award, is offered annually though the SPARKS Literary Festival, and is part of Cox & Palmer’s “BRAVO! Supporting the Arts’ initiative. The award is designed to celebrate achievement in the field of creative writing by a current or recent student of Memorial’s creative writing courses.
Evely is the Managing Editor of Paragon Press, a collection of creative writing that serves as a publication venue and learning tool for creative writers studying at Memorial and across Canada. She is also a previous recipient of the 2011 Gregory Power Poetry Prize and a winner in the senior poetry category of the 2011 Newfoundland & Labrador Arts & Letters competition.
Paul McDonald, partner at Cox & Palmer, was on hand to present Evely with the $2,500 award. The award will support Evely’s future writing endeavours, which will continue to enrich the arts and culture community in Newfoundland and Labrador.
