Articling Program
Superior instruction is offered to our articling clerks by accomplished lawyers who are recognized for their skills, experience and professional and ethical standards. Cox & Palmer values an inclusive and collegial environment and takes a practical approach to involve our clerks in all facets of a client’s file.
Several of our lawyers are long-time instructors and facilitators for various components of applicable mandatory bar preparation courses including civil litigation, insurance, family law, administrative law, corporate/commercial law, bankruptcy, and insolvency and professional responsibility. Articled clerks are assigned a Principal, a senior lawyer who works closely with the clerk to guide the articling experience, as well as a mentor(s). Articled clerks receive regular feedback and formal reviews regarding their performance.
Our articled clerks will get exposure to a variety of practice areas such as corporate and commercial, litigation, real property, employment & labour, and wills & estates.

Coaching/mentoring program | Students and articling clerks receive strong mentorship, through formal mentors and informal mentorship. Our formal mentorship program taps into the knowledge and experience of our lawyers to share professional guidance, practical knowledge, and essential skills to support the growth of students, and articling clerks. Each articled clerk is assigned a partner mentor and an associate mentor. Both mentors provide support to the clerk and guide them through the articling year. Summer students are assigned an associate mentor throughout their 13-week work term. The associate is a junior to mid-level associate who guides the student in building relationships, experiencing law in practice, and considering how their contributions matter to the firm overall. relationships, experiencing law in practice, and considering how their contributions matter to the firm overall. |
Evaluation timing | Students and articling clerks receive 360-degree feedback from experienced lawyers and the Professional Resources team to help ensure they are on the right path to success. Students get a formal evaluation at the end of their 13-week term, while articling clerks receive two formal evaluations—one after each of their first two rotations at the firm. |
Upward reviews? | The firm is always looking for ways to enhance the student and articling clerk experience, both during recruitment and throughout our programs. We regularly gather feedback from our students and articling clerks, and their insights play a key role in helping us maintain and improve the quality of our programs. |
PD Resources? | Students and articling clerks benefit from the support of a dedicated Professional Resources team, which includes a Supervising Lawyer, a Director of Professional Talent, and a Manager of Student and Clerk Programs—all committed to fostering their growth and development. |
