Joe Burke Appointed to the National Council of Development and Peace
Cox & Palmer is pleased to announce that Joe Burke, a partner in the Halifax office, has been appointed to the National Council of Development and Peace.
Development and Peace is the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada. It partners with groups and movements in the Global South to support social and economic justice, democratic participation, and sustainability. Its mission also includes educating Canadians about issues such as poverty and social injustice, and promoting alternatives. Development and Peace is led by its membership and supported by individual donations, government grants, and parish collections. It has supported 15,200 local initiatives in the Global South for close to 50 years, reaching across 70 countries. The National Council is the highest decision-making body of the organization and is composed of volunteer members from each province and two youth members.
As a member of the National Council, Joe will be representing Development and Peace members from across Nova Scotia and helping to steer the organization over the next three years. He will serve on the organization’s Governance Working Group and its Finance and Audit Committee, which oversees an annual budget of approximately $30 million.
Joe is also a member of the Board of Directors for 2b Theatre Company and the Steering Committee of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) Young Patrons’ Circle.
