Stewart Hayne Named a “Canadian Corporate Lawyer to Watch”

July 10, 2014

Cox & Palmer congratulates Stewart Hayne on being named among Lexpert’s 2014 Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada. Stewart, a partner in our Halifax office, was named a “Canadian Corporate Lawyer to Watch.”

Stewart Hayne has leveraged his science and technology background to become one of the few lawyers in Atlantic Canada practicing intellectual property and technology law, both litigation and commercial. He has litigated cases arising out of licensed trade secrets, trade-mark infringement, patent infringement and copyright infringement, including novel issues arising out of the use of open-source software. A significant component of his practice is medical defense matters, further leveraging his science background. Hayne’s practice also includes assisting in corporate transactions with intellectual property components. He has assisted in the IP aspects of the sale of corporate telecommunications divisions and in the $6-billion Muskrat Falls agreement. Formerly IP counsel with Ballard Power Systems, he assisted in the sale of Ballard’s automotive division to Daimler AG and Ford Motor Company.

Stewart was also recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory for Computer & IT Law and Intellectual Property and named one of Lexpert®’s “Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40” in 2013.

Lexpert rankings in this regard are based on national peer survey.
